About the Author
Morton I. Kamien (1938–2011) helped to build Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Business, where he served as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and directed the Heizer Center for Entrepreneurial Studies for nearly 20 years. Nancy L. Schwartz was the Morrison Professor of Decision Sciences, where in 1970 she was the Kellogg School's first woman faculty member appointed to an endowed chair. She chaired the Department of Managerial Economics and Decision Sciences and served as Director of the school's doctoral program until her death in 1981.

A nice reference book

This is a required book for my DO course in economics.

I should admit, however, that having a limited background in mathematics, I do not benefit from this book as much as A. Chiang's *Elements of Dynamic Optimization* and D. Leonard and N. Van Long's *Optimal Control Theory and Static Optimization in Economics* in terms of intuition building. Nevertheless, it is a very nice reference book, written in a clear and rigorous manner, and provides a number of classical and prototype examples.

One thing to mention is that the first part of the book on calculus of variation is not a must-read if the second part of optimal control is what you are interested in, but I would definitely recommend reading the entire book if your intuitions are solid enough.

Concise and well written

This is the best text for dynamic optimization theory in economics that I have used. Explanations are concise and examples are well thought out. Consider this as a supplement to any macro text or a standalone text for a dynamic optimization theory class. Does not really go into numerical solutions/programming.

A captivating mystery!

I read a lot of mysteries and this is one of the best I have had the pleasure of reading in the last several years. Spencer Manning, doing a favor for a public defender, gets into a bit of trouble trying to keep a lady of the night out of trouble and, in doing so solves two parallel crimes. The two cases are expertly woven together in a manner that kept me guessing but avoided getting too tangled in the weeds. This is a well-written book that I hated to have to put down and I'm eagerly awaiting the next one Mr. Polad writes.

Rick Polad did another awesome job on his second book in the series. Rick's descriptive writing style makes you feel like you are there with Spencer as it happens. I enjoyed both books so far, But I have to say that this one was my favorite. On to book three! :)

This one is better than the first!

Finally- it was a very long wait for Rick Polad's 2nd Spencer Manning mystery - Dark Alleys. Rick's first book, Change of Address, had raised my standards for mystery novels, so I expected at least as much excitement, humor, warmth, plot twists, and Chicago locale. As I snuggled down and read Dark Alleys, I found that Rick had raised the bar of excellence once again. Laura is intriguing, Charles is likeable at first, and Amanda is na�ve. The streets and alleys of Chicago are a character in themselves, and even Spencer is affected by them. Each chapter packs a punch as the characters and clues move around in Rubric's cube fashion toward a surprising conclusion. Once again, thank you, Rick, for a terrific book that I will read again and again. Now, how long do I have to wait for Dusty Roads?

This is a FANTASTIC hands-on science experiments book for kids! Highly recommend!

Usborne Science Activities, Vol. 2 This is a FANTASTIC hands-on science experiments book for kids! Highly recommend! We have all three volumes in this set. My daughters love these experiments (Kindergarten and Third grade) and as another reviewer perfectly put it: "We have really enjoyed the hands-on aspect and the easy-to-understand format of these science lessons. Each book has three separate topics that are explored in depth with experiments and activities using common household items. The concepts taught are quite sophisticated considering the fun and easy format. Kids are taught real science principles that can be applied to real life situations, but it is done in a way that is non-threatening and keeps their interest. A few of the experiments didn't work as planned but for the most part they came out fine."

We are using this book as part of our Sonlight Science home school curriculum, but I think anyone would love to do these experiments with their kids any time. :-) They are not only easy to do... but they also explain what / why the experiments work, which is nice. :-) Again, highly recommend any of the three books in this series!

Some lessons seem like they could use more background information. But there are some good, helpful ideas as to share science with young children. It just seems to be lacking usable information is some places. Definitely don't buy this as a standalone science piece, but maybe just summertime fun science or something like that.

Amy Solomon has been a successful program director and faculty member in career school, community college, and clinical occupational therapy settings. I'm a huge fan of Kathy's. I think her stand-up is hilarious. She has some priceless bits, like her recollection of Brooke Shield's wedding. I stayed up all night reading this book.

Some of her revelations are entertaining and juicy, like how Tupac couldn't read, and John Hamm is a drunken lout. The biggest thing I didn't like is her celebrity worship. She gushes like a crazed fan about certain celebs as if she doesn't realize she's "one of them." She's surprised when a celeb recognizes her, but they'd have to be living under a rock to not know who she is. She's been on TV for decades, and she's known for skewering celebs. They all have to be aware of her, out of fear, if nothing else.

JUICY, FUNNY AND ENTERTAINING!

Kathy Griffin's Celebrity Run-Ins: My A-Z Index by Kathy Griffin is a fun read which many readers will enjoy. The book is about the “run-ins” that the comedian, actress, author and Grammy winner experienced first-hand, and you can safely vouch for its veracity. As the book’s title suggests, it is indexed painstakingly and methodically, and you have the option to pick and choose and select the entries in the book. Else, like reading any other normal book, you can start from the beginning and read it through to the end.

If you love or hate Kathy Griffin either as a person or entertainer or even writer, you’ll surely love this book which deals mostly with the relationships she had with other celebrities. Or if it can’t be called a relationship, at least it is her views about others, which may be a much more appropriate description. In the book, she talks about a lot of people ranging from Warren Beatty to Woody Allen to Barbra Streisand to Demi Lovato to Leonardo DiCaprio to Donald Trump, and to Ellen DeGeneres just to name a few.
