Daimler-Benz conspired with the Nazis during the war.

The basic premise of this book is that Daimler-Benz, the maker of Mercedes-Benz automobiles, placed profit before principle and committed criminal acts during World War II. The evidence is displayed as if presented by a prosecutor in court. There is little room for doubt or deception. The book is not always easy to read and the story line is at times hard to follow. There are too many abbreviations that require frequent clarification. Maps should have been included that would have assisted the reader in following the location of the many Daimler-Benz plants. The "story" is important and represents an original contribution, however, the book could have been more "user friendly".

A view in to the past... understanding what has happened.

I rate this book specially for its contents, describing what happened during a difficult period of German History with an objective view.

The study of Daimler Benz history is a good case to see how things happened, what economic conditions were present, what management concepts were used at the time and a description of the development of production technology that made possible the German Industrial power to develop during the Third Reich.

It may also help understand the behavior of the managers in charge of the company, in relation to the human values involved.
This topic is difficult to handle with objectivity. I recommend reading Daniel Faber's book on Alfred Sloan of General Motors to have a feeling of how american top management behaved and thought during the 30's and the second world war(book title: Sloan Rules). It is important to understand how management in America thought their mission, their rights and what they thought was normal behavior to make a paralel to what their contemporaries in Germany were doing.

I think this book is must reading for anyone that is interested in the history of business.

Economic History of Daimler AG under a Corrup Regime

I'll start this book off noting that this book is really an economic history of the Daimler-Benz production from the late twenties through the end of WWII. It does not focus on racing, the vehicles themselves terribly much. If this is what you are looking for though It is a fantastic book that is very intelligently written. I would qualify that by saying that even as someone very well steeped in WWII German history and an intimate knowledge of Daimler Benz product and history there is a need to really know the back story. If this book was your among your first exploring the German economy during WWII, you'd probably do better starting with some general history.

The meat of the book really focuses on the production of engines and vehicles as DB takes over factories through the Reich with explicit help from Hitler's government and what the output was as the Reich expanded and inevitably collapsed. One of the more interesting elements of the book happens later on as the Allied bombing campaign continually destroys the factories and how DB responds by dispersing their production lines to mines and bunkers thus saving much of their equipment. Another interesting aspect of the book is how DB continued to develop a plan for a post war return to passenger vehicle development.

There's naturally some very horrible truths that are described in this book regarding forced labor and this is difficult reading to be sure. That said, this is a great case study of how a large manufacturer in the Third Reich had to politic their way to get government contracts and deal with a criminal leadership. I would recommend this book to anyone deeply interested in the economics of war as well as anyone who is a fan of Mercedes-Benz that wants to know the full history of the brand given that most histories do not focus on this time period.

Although each Shaker community was self-supporting, the Shakers' success at applying their core values―simplicity, utility, and tranquility―carried Shaker villages to a point of abundance: they were able to export their beautiful furniture, delicious foods, and superior wares to the outside world, where they have been appreciated ever since.

Good Book

I had to write a research paper for my Fiber's class (weaving), and I chose to write about the Shaker-Quakers' weaving. This book helped me with the background of the Shaker's community. The book was very informative but not overwhelming. It was good enough for a quick outlook on the life of the Quakers, and their outcome.

Murder on the Menu is a light and easy read with a little bit of romances and a lot of sleuthing! I loved a good cozy mystery now and again and this book certainly quenched my need for it. Zanna Mackenzie clearly has a knack for writing this type of book because she left me intrigued in the beginning and needing more in the end! I truly loved this book and I cannot wait to see where the characters take us in the next book. This series is going to the top of my Cozy Mysteries MUST READ list!

In terms of the characters, I have to say that I really adored Lizzy. She is the perfect female sleuth. While she does find herself in a heap of trouble, Lizzy is clearly a smart character, she’s not overly emotional, and she is quite fun to sleuth with. I enjoyed Jack to in this book. He added a bit of edge to the book and complimented Lizzies character in a great way!

Overall, if you enjoy a good cozy mystery then you should try this one out. After all, it is FREE on kindle unlimited and a TON of fun!

It was fun to follow the sleuthing to find the real murderer!

This is the second of Zanna's books I've read and I really did enjoy it. Jack & Lizzie's relationship seemed real and it was fun to follow them in their sleuthing to find the real murderer before Lizzie ended up in jail. Of course there's a happy ending, just not the one that you're expecting and I think you'll like this one as much as I did. I was given a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review and hope that it's helpful for both the author and the reader.

I am not very good with reviews but here it goes. I loved this book. I borrowed it under the kindle unlimited but I purchased this about halfway before I was done. Loved the main character, Lizzie, and all of the others. It was a mystery with romance thrown in. Light and easy read. Can't wait for the next one.

Raw Real and Hope

Unashamed by Lecrae is a raw and real autobiography of a man who knows the depths of a torturous life and the healing that is found through faith in Jesus Christ.

unashamedThe book takes you into the reality of the long-term destructive nature of physical abuse, sexual abuse, illicit drug and alcohol use, and growing up without a father. Wounds that time in itself does not heal but tends to only result in a deeper festering infection of the soul. Through flowing with such heavy topics, the book doesn't become graphic and certainly doesn't glorify the lifestyle.

Lecrae slowly guides you through his journey out of a world of destruction and into a world with healing in Christ. The book gives the hope of healing from the inner heart on out without the illusion of a quick-fix from the wounds and consequences of past actions. The book leaves you with a picture of a man being healing and growing in Christ, far from perfect, but full of hope and progress.

Lacrae has the courage to talk about real core issues..Loved his testimony and how unashamed he becomes to Glorify all that God is and has done! Which is what I needed.. To learn to be unashamed, man that alone takes the yoke off! Through this book Lacrae helped me better understand myself, my faith and gave me an understanding on how to be a better Christian who loves God and Christ and how to use that love for the world and all those I encounter. About the Author
Kim T. Mueser, PhD, a clinical psychologist, is Executive Director of the Center for Psychiatric Rehabilitation at Boston University. His clinical and research interests include the treatment of schizophrenia and posttraumatic stress disorder and the diagnosis and treatment of people with multiple disorders. He has published extensively and lectures often on the topic of psychiatric rehabilitation.

Susan Gingerich, MSW, is a clinician and consultant with more than 20 years of clinical experience working with people who have severe mental illness and their families. She has an independent practice in Philadelphia.

Dr. Mueser and Ms. Gingerich have coauthored four books.

for families dealing with Schizophrenia

As a mother of a son with Schizophrenia, this is the most helpful book I have read. I live in the Netherlands and give Family to Family education and I have found the information clear, useful and easy to read.

Most books deal with facts and figures and the actual diagnoses and medication. This book gives helpful tips about solving problems, communication and managing stress. It also gives a realistic view of the recovery process and helps familys head off relapses.

I would also advise family members to give this book to everybody who has contact with the patient. I think its would help with lowering the stigma attached to this illness.

An awesome book and tool for those whom have a family member with this devastating disease! I'm still reading it so far but it looks like a definite keeper!

If you need to know basics about the illness, resources, and practical help with dealing with your ill loved one, this is the book!

An excellant addition to magical series!

This third book of the ‘Masters and Mages’ series is quite compelling and, in my opinion, more ambitious than the previous installments in the series, which I absolutely adored. The first half of the richly-detailed story is devoted to the torrid relationship between two new-to-the series characters: captive prince, Dezra Luzan, who harbors dormant magical powers, and Rayn Nevar, a captain escorting visiting dignitaries who are allies of the prince’s captors. The chemistry between Dezra and Rayn is stuff-of-legend fabulous, but magic, massive trust issues, and a harrowing political climate make this story much more than a clever otherworld romance. Be prepared for riveting adventure, and wonderfully imaginative scenes of passion and sorcery of the “go-deep” epic variety. Plus, the reappearance of M’lan and Jamil, leading characters from the first two books, transform this absorbing tale of one man’s destiny into a true spellbinder. Innovative!

What made this story stand apart for me is that initially the characters weren’t all that likable. Prince Dezra’s pretense of being an indolent wastrel addicted to drugs and sex, coupled with his inner voice of suspicion, first read as cowardice to me. But the slow reveal of the reasons behind his fear and his valiant fight to find his true self despite harboring a tremendous supernatural demon, eventually won me over. Plus, I really love the characters of M’lan and Jamil so their inclusion made me take a kinder view toward the prince. Uh-huh, because M’lan thought Dezra worth saving, I was swayed to reconsider my constant Kirk-to-McCoy voice of “Get it together, Bones” that accompanied my journey with Dezra throughout the initial half of the book. I still consider Dezra a most fragile and arrogant prince, and freely admit that his gorgeous appearance and satyriasis-like sex drive also figured into my gradual love of him as an intriguing anti-hero.

Captain Rayn Nevar was splendid both as a courageous warrior and heroic lover. Okay, at times I wanted him to smack the prince upside his head… but given that Dezra held the power to smite him from the Earth, in this case patience was indeed a virtue.

The storyline definitely churns up some emotion and is more than the sum of its simple-complex plot. I weighed in on some tough morality questions, all the while wondering if the prince would find the spiritual fulfillment he needed to rule both the magic within him and his kingdom. The author’s skill at world building rose another notch with this book and I happily wallowed in an ethereal land of dusty valleys, rocky terrains, and majestic mountains, when I wasn’t shivering in the dank cold shadows of the serpent god Ka’alar’s embrace. Like a little mysticism and danger with your romance? Then this book is for you!

Larry Eigner began writing poetry at age eight and was first published at age nine. About the Author
Widely respected American poet Larry Eigner, the author of over 75 books and broadsides, was born “palsied from hard birth” (as he phrased it) in Lynn, Massachusetts, on August 7, 1927. With the exception of two teenage years in residence at the Massachusetts Hospital School in Canton, Eigner spent his first fifty years at home in his parents’ house in Swampscott, Massachusetts, where he was cared for by his mother, Bessie, and his father, Israel, and where he came to do his writing in a space prepared for him on the glassed-in front porch basically every day.

Curtis Faville has worked as a teacher, editor, and publisher with degrees in English, creative writing, and landscape architecture. He has published four collections of poetry—Stanzas for an Evening Out, Ready, Wittgenstein’s Door, and Metro—as well as books by Bill Berkson, Ted Greenwald, and Larry Eigner, among others, under the L Publications/Compass Rose Books imprint. He maintains an eclectic Internet blog, The Compass Rose.

Poet, essayist, and visual artist Robert Grenier has taught literature and creative writing at UC Berkeley, Tufts, Franconia College, and Mills College. He edited Robert Creeley’s first Selected Poems for Scribner’s, and subsequently edited three books of poems by Larry Eigner: Waters / Places / A Time; Windows / Walls / Yard / Ways; and readiness / enough / depends / on. Working with Eigner, Grenier completed the preparation of some 1,800 “established texts” of Eigner’s poems. An archive of Grenier’s own work—the Robert Grenier Papers—is housed in Stanford University’s Green Library.
