The best book that is truly informative!

Finally, a book about Filippinas by a Filippina! Truly informative. This book really gives you the perspective that is missing from all the others. And is truthful about the aspects the you should know about there culture and motives. A MUST read if you are considering or are already in a relationship with a beautiful Filippina!

Heartfelt personal book with some shortcomings.

I really appreciate the authors personal perspective. As a young Filipina she adds a unique voice on the topic of interracial relationships. She is very wise and the advice is excellent. Overall she paints a fairly grim picture of Filipino culture and I think she is too harsh in this regard. The writer really needs an editor, as there are endless spelling, grammar and punctuation issues. But, of course that is not what this book is about. Anyone interested in involving themselves romantically with a woman from the Philippines should read this book, it is truly an eye opener with a bit of a pessimistic bias.

A 'unique' perspective!

An excellent book written by a 'filipina', not a foreigner, thus a different and important perspective. I appreciate the author's warnings about scammers which is all too common throughout SE Asia. If you're considering a relationship with a filipina, I HIGHLY recommend it.

Holy Mother of.....WHAT???!!!!!!!!!

Well this just got interesting. I knew that we were in for a dozy with that cliffhanger from the first installment, but Daaaaaaamn!!! As if CJ hadn’t been through enough crap, this story takes the cake.

Ok, so we’re left with that cliffhanger of finding out who Asher really is and the phone call from Scarlett, right? We pick up from there and are literally thrown into the madness that has become CJ’s life. We start reading about how CJ’s life takes a turn for the bad, but by God, it takes a turn for the worst within 3 chapters. I REALLY don’t want to give anything away, but lets just say WTF and OMG!!!!

Asher, oh Asher. Thank goodness you have a past that has come in handy while trying to find CJ. We learn a little more about Asher’s past; what he did in Russia as well as who he knows. We also get to see first hand how he “used” to be, and it’s an awesomely fulfilling moment in the book. One of the sacrifices Asher has to make in order to find CJ is going to be a very hard one for CJ to overcome if they are going to make it.

And look…..another cliffhanger. To be continued…

Focus? No way too much excitement to Focus!

Focus by Annie Jocoby is the second book in the Exposure Series and begins with CJ Parker missing. CJ is gone and Asher Sloane has no idea where she is or why she was taken but his concern is that maybe it has to do with him and his past life. If CJ was taken as a way to get to Asher, he would never be able to live with himself and it would be that much more difficult to get her back. When someone from his past suddenly shows up with information about her whereabouts he is willing to pay any price even if it requires telling a lie and living with the consequences.

CJ suddenly wakes up drugged, blind folded, and scared for her life. She has no idea why she has been kidnapped, where she is, or who has her. As the reality of her situation becomes clearer she immediately panics. She has been kidnapped, bought and sold, and now her buyer is looking to sell her again. She is not the only one in the room, there is another woman Marisa who is also being held captive. By the time Asher puts his information to use and finds CJ, she has already been sold again and the seller won’t give Asher any information about the buyer. He is however willing to sell Asher the other woman, Marisa and Asher soon realizes it may provide him with more information in how to get to CJ.

While Asher is working out a plan to save CJ, she meets her new buyer who hopes to turn her into a sex slave. She is left drugged, beaten, and then by the grace of God has a tragic event happen that makes it a little easier for Asher to find her, only problem is her injuries are extensive in ways the reader would never predict. As she has to fight to overcome her new lifestyle I feel it makes her stronger in some aspects and a little freer. I feel that some of her reservations are not the same and it gives her a new strength to do something she couldn’t do in book 1. The trials that ensue her and Asher continue to have the tug of war of being together and being apart, but there can be great strength in that. I can’t wait to see the ramifications of the choices they have each made in book 3 and if they will ever get their deserved happy ever after.

Annie Jocoby kept me engaged from the beginning. This book had more love, more suspense and more adventure. It had more history of the characters and introduced us to new characters that we may just fall in love with.

Loved it

The previous book in this series ended on a huge cliffhanger, so I couldn't wait to start this book, and it didn't disappoint. Asher is back and he is determined to rescue CJ from Albanian gangsters who plan to sell her as a sex slave. This exciting storyline brings us more suspense, more danger and more intrigue. I was hooked right from the first page, and the author managed to keep my attention throughout the story.

Asher is desperate to get CJ back, but to do so he has to make a huge sacrifice that may mean his relationship with CJ will be over when she finds out. Can Asher find her before it's too late? Will CJ survive the terrifying ordeal? And will their relationship survive?

I loved CJ in the last book, and I love her even more now. She has been through so much in her life, nothing seems to come easy to her. Asher is just as hot as before, he's a deliciously dirty bad boy who you can't help but love. I really enjoyed this roller coaster ride, the twists and turns in this book are fabulous. Focus receives five stars.

Dennis Goodman, MD, is Director of Integrative Medicine at New York University, where he also serves as Clinical Associate Professor and Cardiologist in the Department of Cardiology and Preventative Medicine. Board certified in Cardiology, Internal Medicine, Lipidology, Cardiac CT Imaging, and Integrative Medicine, he graduated Cum Laude with distinction from the University of Cape Town Medical School in Cape Town, South Africa. Dr. Goodman completed his Internal Medicine residency and was Chief Medical Resident at Montefiore Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA, and completed his cardiology fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston TX. Great effect

Great introduction to get information we need. It,s my cure in joints problem. K2 and magnesium, both together I,ve been taking for last 7 months. I had no possibility to even lift a glass of water with my left hand because of calcification problem and bone spur fracture in elbow. Calcifications are lost now, fractured bone spur in elbow is fully absorbed. I was climbing on a hillside using chains mounted in the rock in beautiful polish Tatra mountains a week ago. I thought it was no longer possible but I found a cure. The only souvenir of my illness is not optimistic x-ray picture. My doctor said that there was nothing to be done with my problem except of ultrasound treatment. His method has no possibility to remove the real cause. Human body need a way to balance. Fighting with a secondary symptoms is a waste of time. We need a doctor who is able to find a cause and treat it.

A useful, easy-to-read booklet

A useful little booklet for the general public. It describes vitamin K2 in most of its known details (we know very little about it!) and is nicely structured with summaries for each chapter. My only complaint is that it, like many books, gives the impression that a simple supplement of K2, and perhaps magnesium and vitamin D, is sufficient and that calcium is mostly detrimental. The evidence is that we are borderline deficient in most vitamins and minerals and taking single vitamins may actually increase the need for others.

The pencil and pen marks bleed through the paper.

The pages of this workbook are notorious for bleeding through if you write on them (which is required). I used pencil to write my answers but you could still see the lettering on the other side as if you wrote on it directly. It's very distracting! It doesn't matter if you use a pen or pencil. The lettering bleeds through to the next page. I had no choice but to keep it because it's required but it's garbage. They must've used the cheapest type of paper to print and then charge students full price. The regular textbook is the same way. I write in my books as an additional study guide. This is ridiculous.

Older version is better

I'll give this 4 stars, but if I was just giving this how the product arrived I would give it 1 star. The text in itself is ok, the older version has the mAs associated with each technique this does not. On the how the product arrived review, it arrived along with the workbook damage pretty bad. Workbook was ripped and the book itself had damaged edges and corners. Not one to give bad reviews based on how the product arrived, but if I would have time to resend it and get another I would have cause it was damaged that bad.

Luria (1902–77) describes the life and personality of a man (known as 'S') who was found to have a literally limitless memory and whose burden was that he was able to forget things only by an act of will… The same publisher reissued The Man with a Shattered World, Luria's study of a young soldier who suffers a catastrophic head injury and has to relearn almost everything. In 1973 one reviewer called it an intriguing and 'valuable review of the strange but precise working of the brain.' Both are translated by Lynn Solotaroff. (New York Times)

The Brain, Brain Injuries, and Brain Functioning

This book is actually a collaboration between a famed psychologist and a Russian socldier who experienced a devastating head wound in battle in 1943. The soldier in vivid detail expresses how the head injury has permanently affected his life as well as how he processes perceptual information and communicates with the world. Very easy to read, I was clearly struck by the heroic measures made by the soldier to enlighten Luria and other readers on how his functioning was irrevocably altered by his brain injury. Normally complicated discussions on the brain are rendered easily understood in this book. I highly recommend this for anyone who works in the mental health field.

The author of neuropsychology has done a phenomenal job of describing not just the specific brain damage but also the incredible impact on the man's life [25 plus years]. The only change the publisher should make is use different fonts for when Luria is speaking AND ANOTHER WHEN THE PATIENT IS WRITING. It should be required reading for all who work with TBI patients.

Fascinating and moving, by a hero of Oliver Sacks

I learned about this book from Oliver Sacks; he's often mentioned Luria as a hero and cited this book as an example of what he's trying to do. It is a case study--collaboration between doctor and patient--of a man who suffered severe effects from a brain injury incurred during the Second World War; he's lost most of his memory, including his education and how to do the simplest things; however his brain's intact when it comes to his personality. He's in the worst possible position, in a way, because he's conscious of all his deficiencies, but he's almost powerless to correct them.

Almost. But he can try. The part of him that can try is intact. This is a great book to read when you're depressed and feeling sorry for yourself because it makes you feel how lucky you are. The patient tries to get his life back back by writing about his experiences: what he can do, what he can't do, what he's trying to do. It's heartbreaking but also stunning, what can be accomplished by will alone--will is pretty much all the patient has left.

Fantastic...A fun read with practical solutions

FANTASTIC, what a great book to discover what this Theory of Baggage all about. The context of the book is written under the genre of self-help.

It has an amazing method to provide ideas that move me. First, I fell in love with Samantha after the third chapter because essentially, she is me, you, and all of us wrapped up in a tidy package. Next, every single chapter I reflected on the stories how they blended lessons of life to the reality of the world I live in. I didn’t feel like I was being preached to in terms of motivation or the traditional self-help book.

I also appreciate the author taking this book one-step further, that includes giving back to both the reader, and our community in the form of worksheet downloads and charity. I won’t mention my equity analysis, but not good, so TOB effort is needed. For the price of this book, I can imagine the vast time and energy it took to research and compile for the reader a story that warmed my heart, made me laugh, a few tears, and opened my mind to TOB.

Interestingly, the music association with each chapter was creative, and I found a great connection to provide me personal meaning. Bottom line, I'm sharing this book with my friends since everyone can use a dose of Samantha in our relationships and day-to-day well-being.

Here is what motivated me and I valued about this book. It made me think about getting off the couch and doing something about my life instead of whining like the Work Vampire chapter. Reading the book it captured me just as the author mentioned, I would step into Samantha’s shoes. After several chapters, I felt the author was talking to me directly and I connected with the story. As an avid reader, I realize the author was slowly shifting my perspective with the Duh Moments. Then just at the right point, the entire book (TOB) came into focus and I had to put down the book for a couple days. I realized I need to face my own baggage and stop avoiding it like the plague. Overall, great book, easy to read, and full of misadventures that made me smile and laugh. Thank you Samantha for writing a book like this, I'm passing it along to several of my friends since they needs the same dose.

A most provocative book, to say the least! When I was unclear about something, I went to a reliable source. My girlfriend. Sorry ladies, but she gave me the secret decoder ring. Now I know so much more that I could have really used when I was younger. Better late than never. Highly recommended.

A book for busy executives that need to start working smarter

Dermot Crowley is clearly one of the world's experts when it comes to personal productivity in the modern workplace. Not only does Smart Work display a depth of knowledge it is articulated in a way that is clear, concise and easy to follow. It seems that so many technology books these days are based in theory when what busy executives really need is simple, practical advice. Through both the case studies and the simple tool tips at the end of each chapter it is easy to see that Crowley has written this to help people take meaningful action.

If I had one criticism for the book it would be that it doesn't go far enough. With so many other digital tools now available it would be great to see Crowley's thoughts on some of the emerging opportunities such as CRM (he mentions some of these briefly but doesn't go into a lot of detail). That being said it is clearly written for an executive audience and is focused on the tools that they are likely to be already using...and perhaps some of the emerging stuff is being saved for the next book.

The easiest way form new productivity habits

One of the things I've always struggled with in managing my time and productivity, is that the methodologies (while they are brilliant) just feel too overwhelming to implement and turn into habit. I've been following Dermot's newsletter since early 2015, and always taken practical inspiration from his ideas on productivity. So this new book of his couldn't have come too soon. It's filled with how-to, but it's absolutely not overwhelming. I think Dermot must have deeply studied and immersed himself in all the possible ways to manage productivity, and his gift is being able to draw the essential goodness from it all, and share it with us in probably the easiest way form new productivity habits that serve not only our use of time but the value we extract from it. Thank you Dermot!
